Do you need permits to build an Alumawood® Shade Structure?

We always recommend that you check with your local building department to see if permits are required.  In most cases any new structure will require permits.  Engineered drawings can be provided.

 

Are Amerimax shade structures structurally engineered?

Yes.  Products comply with the 2009 and 2012 International Building Code and 2010 and 2013 California Building Code.  For specific questions on wind, snow and live load requirements, contact your local building department.

 

Can Alumawood® Shade Structures handle high wind areas?

This product can only be installed in 90 mph (miles per hour) wind speed zones.  This product is listed under ICBO Evaluation Report #2621P.  For specific questions on wind, snow and live load requirements, contact your local building department.

 

Can Alumawood® Shade Structures handle snow loads?

This product can only be installed in 10, 20, or 30 psf (pounds per square foot) snow loads.  This product is listed under ICBO Evaluation Report #2621P.  For specific questions on wind, snow and live load requirements, contact your local building department.

 

Can the Alumawood® Shade Structures handle hanging items?

The patio covers are not designed to carry additional loads such as hanging plants, swings, people, trellis’s , or other weighted objects.
